VANGUARD is proud to announce the full roster of 42 artists who will participate in the 2026 edition of our landmark exhibition in Cairo. This year’s cohort represents the most geographically and generationally diverse group in the initiative’s history, with artists hailing from 18 countries across the MENA region, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and the diaspora.
The exhibition, titled The Art of Becoming, is curated by Artistic Director Dr. Amira Soliman and explores themes of transformation, identity, and cultural resilience. Artists were selected through an extensive curatorial process involving studio visits, peer nominations, and institutional partnerships.
“This year’s artist list reflects our belief that the most urgent conversations in contemporary art are happening outside the traditional centres,” says Dr. Soliman. “These are artists who are not waiting for permission — they are reshaping the landscape on their own terms.”
The exhibition will be staged across three venues in Cairo’s historic downtown district, opening on 15 March 2026 and running through 30 June 2026. A full programme of talks, performances, and workshops will accompany the exhibition.
